Skatecoach
Andreas Larsson
I started as most kids in Sweden to skate on a pair of hockeyskates. I loved the speed and the thrill of mastering the blade on the ice. When I at the age of 13 got a chance to try speedskating I was hooked. Since that day I have lived my life for performances on the ice.
My plan was to be the best sprinter in the word. I didn’t reach so far but I stoped with a couple of worldcups, a silver on U-23 European championships, a lot of Swedish championships medals and a Swedish record in the bag.
My 9,84 on 100m is still Swedish record and it feels good to know I am the fastes man on ice in Sweden ever.
As a coach
During my years as a speedskater I educated myself to become a coach. All those education programs were ofcourse important. But the fact that I have worked full time as a coach with absolute world class athletes during so many years is a education that’s hard to get in the school.
I have been lucky to been able to work with skaters from all over the world. As my role as National team coach and PRO-team coach I´ve been coaching skaters from Sweden – Norway – Netherlands – USA – Canada – Japan – France – Belgium – Great Brittan – Argentina – Denmark.
RESULTS
Worldchampionships:
Gold x 4
Silver x 3
Bronze x 1
European championships:
3 x Bronze
World cup:
Gold x 8
Silver x 4
Bronze x 8
To that we add a number of world, nation and personal records.
Hockey:
Besides my years as full time speedskating coach I got more and more questions from Hockey players that wanted help with skating technique and dryland training. I saw that the combination between the two sports and the fact that my expertice is to perform on the ice was a perfect match.
The game of hockey is complex but every hockey player needs to skate and its always room for improvments on that area.
To see, analyze and develope the position on the skates, mobility in ankles and hip, specific aerobic and anaerobic capacity, specific power and endurance is what I do for living and that fits perfect for hockeyplayers.
Throughout my life I have been studying and working to improve skating performance so I can say that ive seen some strides the last 25 years.
The platform for me as a coach is to create a functional body that is developed to performe in that specific area that the sports demand.
Parallel with my job as a toplevel coach I have always worked on a regular basis with young talented athletes. That work is important for me to stay on the toes and to always search for improvments as a coach.

To get the mission to create a top sport system and elit program in Swedish speedskating that lead to first Swedish worldchampionships medal since 1983 was special and I put that as my best and most important result so far.
Im also proud that Hampus Lindholm (1 round pick Anaheim Ducks 2012) put one of the best combine test results in NHL draft history.
